5 classic cocktails made with rum

Rum is an alcoholic beverage that is obtained from the fermentation, distillation and aging of sugar cane. White rum is typical of the Caribbean region: the Dominican Republic, Cuba and Puerto Rico. And the darker, stronger tasting rums are usually from Jamaica.
There are many ways to make rum, and it depends mainly on the country, the area and the ingredients and modes of distillation. Similarly, there are many varieties when preparing cocktails, since rum gives us incredible versatility and allows us to combine with different ingredients. To celebrate International Rum Day, we recommend you prepare one of these classic cocktails and toast to this drink… Cheers!

Mojito

The mojito is one of the most popular rum-based Cuban cocktails around the world. It is a very easy recipe to prepare, and it also has some variations, depending on the flavor you want. You only need white rum, mineral water, two tablespoons of sugar, crushed ice, a little peppermint and, for the classic, a tablespoon of lemon juice. You can change the latter for some other fruit or juice, such as mango or strawberry.

Piña colada

Another rum classic! It is a Puerto Rican cocktail that has various forms of preparation, but here we leave you the most popular. You need white rum, natural pineapple juice, coconut milk and ice. If you like it a little sweeter, you can add more sugar or even condensed milk; Mix everything in the blender, and voila!

Daiquiri

Ideal for the summer and the beach. It comes from Cuba and is very easy to prepare; Like the mojito, you can make it with the fruit that you like the most, or is in season. Your ingredients will only be: white rum, lime or lemon juice, fruit syrup (you can choose the one you like, but we recommend strawberries and pineapples) and ice. Frost your glass with sugar, pour the previously blended ingredients and enjoy.

Mai Tai

It is said to have been invented at the Trader Vic restaurant in California in 1944. It means delicious in Tahitian, and it lives up to its name! To prepare it, you must combine white rum, with dark rum, orange curaçao, almond syrup, lemon juice and a little grenadine. Mix all the ingredients in the blender with crushed ice, and enjoy the summer with this refreshing drink.

Cuba libre

The traditional rum! Very easy to prepare and it is the pride of the Cuban people. Its ingredients are famous around the world and it has been around for over a hundred years. Mix your rum of choice, with lemon, cola and ice. If you want to give it a more citrus and decorative touch, you can add a lemon wedge on the edge of the glass.
